THAT ONE TIME WE WERE JUST A COUPLE OF DIVORCEES WRITING POEMS INTO EACH OTHERS’ HOLES

the reddest

pomegranates

defy god,

observe grief,

tally tears,

shout fuck

that one

slut,

the guts

simmer,

the city

sizzles,

the unimpressive sky

is,

the buns concrete

burns,

the hand

flips,

the books

slip,

the pages

tongued

into mmmmhmms

stroke your paper, baby

write a poem with this bic

just a quip,

just a sip,

just a nip,

just the tip,

just a finger

or three,

a fistful

of wine,

a tell

and show

re: members,

re-gender,

re-tender,

re-D,

re-C,

re-X Y Z,

re-O!

re-read

hades planted

the grenades

in holes

next to

the buttons

spreading seeds

root bound

in destruction

man turns

away from

the eruption

all while

persephone’s eyes

open wide

she swallows

and knows

the truth

is not

for cowards

he split, they splayed,

she splat, you strayed

into the darkness stumbling,

as I draped my weight across the bed

fearlessly dumb, reading

the books you left behind.
